Possibilities Without Possible Worlds/Histories
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper puts forward a theory of historical modalities that is framed in terms of possible continuations rather than possible worlds or histories. The proposal is tested as a semantical theory for a language with historical modalities, tenses, and indexicals.

متن کاملThe Intentional versus the Propositional Structure of Contents
The mind is a representing organ. It is somehow able to receive, store, retrieve, and express content. The hallmark of contentfulness is given by propositional attitudes such as desiring, expecting, fearing, and hoping. I commit here the common sin of taking belief to be the paradigmatic attitude and pretending it to be representative of all the other ones; I shall leave this pretension uncheck...
متن کاملTracking without Concessions?*
In the first, shorter part of the paper I point out some problems and potential misunderstandings connected with B. Berčić’s treatment of Nozick’s sensitivity condition for knowledge. In the second part of the paper I offer the condition of modal stability or limited sensitivity as a revision of Nozickian conditions for non-accidental connection between our belief and the truth of our belief. “...
متن کاملEverettian quantum mechanics without branching time
In this paper I assess the prospects for combining contemporary Everettian quantum mechanics (EQM) with branching-time semantics in the tradition of Kripke, Prior, Thomason and Belnap. I begin by outlining the salient features of ‘decoherence-based’ EQM, and of the ’consistent histories’ formalism that is particularly apt for conceptual discussions in EQM. This formalism permits of both ‘branch...
متن کاملA Constructive Epistemic Logic with Public Announcement (Non-Predetermined Possibilities)
We argue that the notion of epistemic possible worlds in constructivism (intuition-ism) is not as the same as it is in classic view, and there are possibilities, called non-predetermined worlds, which are ignored in (classic) Epistemic Logic. Regarding non-predetermined possibilities, we propose a constructive epistemic logic and prove soundness and completeness theorems for it. We extend the p...
